Big Brain Academy: For Wii I must admit I never really got into the whole “Brain Training” thing until very recently, the whole thing just seemed to be a bit of a fad to me, a gimmick but when I finally got a copy of “More Brain Training” I could see the appeal it has, it’s fun, it’s quirky and it definitely feels that you slowly improve each day you try, though be that you’re “exercising your brain” as Nintendo love to boast, or merely you’re just getting better at the mini-games as with all video games with practice is a matter of debate. So when I finally got a copy of the Wii version of Big Brain Academy I was expecting the same… Like I said, I never got round to playing the DS version of the game, so I approached this title with fresh eyes, and to be honest I was a little disappointed, it feels like a cross between WarioWare and an “arcadey” version of Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training. |
The game is set into five different aspects to mentally improve on, Visualisation (Puzzle like games), identification (spot the difference type games), compute (Maths), memorize (what it says really) and analyze. Each running through ten different puzzles before giving you the weight of your brain at the end of the game. And that is pretty much it. The games do randomly change in type and difficulty and you can practice or speed-run them for improvement. There is also a multi-player mode, (a combination of the test and practice modes) where two players race against each other to complete 20 puzzles in as fast as time as possible |

I know this game is aimed at the “casual gamer” and the fact that it’s only £16.99, but for your Seventeen Nickah you’re not really getting that much game here, There’s only 15 different mini games to play from (there should have been at least twice that), Multi-Player does add some longevity (as with all games), but you’ll soon be reaching for that copy of Wii Sports if you’ve got mates over. If you’re really after a mini-game, er. Game, you’re much better off getting WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Super Monkey Ball:Banana Blitz or even a DS and a copy of Brain Training, that or hope that Ninty release a Wii version of that. I’d only recommend you get this if you’re buying it for your Mum or Gran. |
It’s not a bad game per say, You just don’t get much “game” for your money.
